REFLECTIONS ON THE GOODNESS OF GOD/BIBLICAL PROOFS OF GOD’S GOODNESS 1

A lot of times, we hear preachers, talk about God’s goodness. They say ‘God is good’ and many don’t understand what they mean! They wonder, if these preachers or Christians, or people are trying to be nice to God, or are they saying the truth, and what do these mean?
Firstly, I will like us to look at the meaning of good and goodness. The word good, according to the Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary could have several correct meanings, all of which are appealing to any one that is reasonable. The various words that I am talking about include: of high quality or an acceptable standard; pleasant; sensible/strong; favorable; skillful; morally right; following rules; healthy; useful/helpful; suitable; showing approval; large; at least i.e. rather more than; thorough; likely to provide, etc. However, it is important to note and to know, that none of these words can accurately describe the goodness of God. They may come close to doing it, but they don’t do it accurately. Why do I say that, ‘his ways, are not our ways, neither are his thoughts, our thoughts, for as the heavens are over the earth, so are his ways higher than our ways, and his thoughts, higher than our thoughts.’ It therefore becomes clear to us that we live in a World that does not know what real beauty is and therefore, cannot describe it accurately.
Recently, while watching a video CD of a conference, that held in the U.S.A.,I heard a popular Preacher talking about the legal system in the U.S.A. ,and he lamented first of all that no man had the right to hand out capital punishment to another human being. He then said that we know how to classify people, as good or bad, we categorize and lock them up in the computer of our hearts! Well, then he told the people the gospel truth, which is’ that there is evil, even in the best amongst us ‘.
He is very correct, because Jesus said exactly, the same thing. At one time, a man came to Jesus and asked him,’ Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?’17 And he said unto him, ‘why callest thou me good? There is none good, but one, that is God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.’
A popular Nigerian Pastor, while talking, about the goodness of God and of his unfailing love, said ‘,If you know about some of the things that I do, you may like me again, but God is not like that, His love is unconditional, and his mercy is unfathomable.’
